Active Flow Control of a Flame-Holder Wake Using Nanosecond-Pulsed Surface-Dielectric-Barrier Discharge in a Low-Pressure Environment

چکیده

Flame holders are widely used in ramjet combustors. We propose using surface nanosecond-pulsed surface-dielectric-barrier-discharge (NS-DBD) to manipulate the flame-holder flow field experimentally. The electrical characteristics, induced performance, and temperature distribution of NS-DBD were investigated via optical measurement system. In filamentary discharge mode, energy rose with decrease ambient pressure. pattern changed from filamentous uniform around 5 kPa. Starting-vortex intensity jet-flow angle relative wall increased at low recirculation zone was asymmetrical pressures above 60 zone’s area length smaller lower pressures, but when actuator operating, nearly 11.8% longer. vorticity When pulse width 300 ns, had greatest effect, velocity region (LVR) fuel–air-mixture residence time (FMRT) could be by 31.8% 20.5%, respectively. a widening effect on LVR Rising-edge should increase pressure optimize increase; it ns FMRT increase. conclude that is viable method controlling airflow

Kinetic study of low temperature methane oxidation in a nanosecond repetitively pulsed dielectric barrier discharge

Methane oxidation was investigated in a nanosecond repetitively pulsed dielectric barrier discharge. Quantitative measurements of temperature and product species were performed using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy and gas chromatograph sampling. Discrepancies with modelling work revealed uncertainties in the low temperature oxidation reactions, particularly for methyl radical oxida...

Deposition of polymer-like coatings with a nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure

Atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharges (AP-DBD) generally result in highly cross-linked coatings with a low retention of the monomer structure. Moreover, when high concentrations of precursor or/and reactive gas is used, coatings become less homogenous, less conformal and rougher. This study highlights the possibility to deposit smooth, conformal and polymer-like coatings thanks to ...

Surface Decontamination by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma

Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...

Flame Stabilization Using a Pulsed Plasma Discharge in Subsonic Flow

Stable combustion in a harsh environment, such as lean fuel concentration and/or low temperature conditions, is attractive because of its low emissions. However, such flames suffer from lack of stability. In our research, an AC plasma discharge is applied to a lifted jet flame to increase the stability of the flame. Two types of discharges are utilized for this experiment. First, a single elect...

Adaptive Flow Control of Low Reynolds Number Aerodynamics Using a Dielectric Barrier Discharge Actuator

The aerodynamics of micro air vehicles (operating at the chord Reynolds number of 10 5 or below) is substantially influenced by the unsteadiness of the wind gust and the aircraft’s light weight. In this effort, we investigate the active flow control of the dielectric barrier discharge actuator for flows around the SD7003 airfoil, with the chord Reynolds number of 6×10 4 , to enhance our underst...
